In many people's minds, South Africa is the place to go if you want to enjoy a safari. Although the country does provide opportunities for such diversions, it offers far more than that. Its famous surf breaks also attract and produce some of the world's best junior surfers. With that said, here's a quick look at five of the country's best surfers:

Slade Prestwich

Slade Prestwich is a 17 year old regular footer. He hails from Durban. His ability to unleash a wide array of maneuvers is what makes him a stand out. To date, his best performances of the 2012 season took place at the Billabong Pro Junior in Cape St. Francis and the Quiksilver Pro Junior in Durban. He finished in 3rd place at the Billabong Pro Junior and won the Quiksilver Pro Junior.

Beyrick De Vries

Beyrick De Vries is a 19 year old regular footer. He hails from Umhlanga Rocks. His ability to deliver stunning air reverses is what helps to set him apart from the rest. As it stands now, his best performances of the 2012 season took place at the Chiko Pro Junior in New South Wales and the Quiksilver Pro Junior in Durban. He finished the Chiko Pro Junior in 3rd place and the Quiksilver Pro Junior in 2nd place.

In my opinion, his ability to fire off clean, powerful carves with abundant style makes him someone surf fans should keep an eye on. If you ask me, his best performance of the 2012 season took place at the Quiksilver Pro Junior in Durban. He finished the surfing competition in 3rd place.

Michael February

Michael February is a 19 year old regular footer. He hails from Cape Town. What makes him worth watching is his growing arsenal of aerial maneuvers. He finished in 3rd place at each of those surfing competitions.

Remi Petersen

Remi Petersen is a 19 year old goofy footer. He hails from Jefferys Bay. Although he hasn't had much success during the 2012 season, his surfing skills shouldn't be taken lightly. He is quite capable of firing off gorgeous backhand barrels and other jaw-dropping maneuvers. His best display of skill this year took place at the Quiksilver Pro Junior in Durban. He finished the surfing competition in 5th place.
