Poor Academic Success Rate scores led to an NCAA postseason ban for the Toledo men's basketball team, but the current coaching staff expects the decision might be overturned.
The poor scores include a two-year rolling average of 917 and four-year average of 869, but all the negative marks turned in came prior to Tod Kowalczyk's arrival. The NCAA threshold for postseason eligibility is 930.
The NCAA could agree at its July 10 meeting to incorporate scores from 2011-12, which would clear Toledo for postseason play.
The uncertainy, however, might cost the Rockets in the interim. Any eligible seniors with scholarships who will be the roster next season are permitted to transfer without penalty. The risk for Dominique Buckley and Curtis Dennis is that if they opt to transfer and Toledo's postseason ban is lifted in July, then they'd be forced to sit out, effectively ending their college careers.
Having used their redshirt waiver, neither player would retain eligibility for 2013-14.
