Tito Ortiz Avoids Jail Time for DUI Arrest

Current Bellator light heavyweight fighter Tito Ortiz avoided any jail time for his recent driving under the influence charge.

TMZ.com first reported on Wednesday, and MMAWeekly.com subsequently confirmed, that Ortiz (full name Jacob Christopher Ortiz) pleaded no contest to a DUI charge stemming from an early morning accident on Jan. 6, where Ortiz crashed his white 2012 Porsche Panamera into a concrete median on I-405 in Los Angeles. Ortiz, 39, was arrested and taken into custody following the accident, but was released three hours later after posting a $15,000 bond.

He had two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but no one suffered any injuries.

It’s his first offense, but Ortiz could have received up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The no-contest plea, however, kept him out of jail. Ortiz instead received three years of probation and must enroll and complete an alcohol education program.

Ortiz is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, who is currently under contract with Bellator MMA.

Ortiz was supposed to have made his promotional debut in the headliner of Bellator’s first pay-per-view offering last November. He pulled out of a bout with Rampage Jackson due to a neck injury, however, and the pay-per-view plans were nixed.

He is now slated to face Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in a light heavyweight non-title bout at Bellator 120 on May 17, which, if everything goes according to plan, will be the promotion’s first pay-per-view offering.
