Titans wins and losses predictions 2016

A look at the Titans schedule and predicting wins and losses from it.

Week 1 Minnesota Vikings at home

The Titans do start strong and the Vikings have a way of relying too much on “All Day.” If their nose tackle position settles in camp, they could upset them. In recent openers, they beat the Chiefs with Locker looking sharp and Mariota was player of the week. Hoping the interior defensive line can be stout week one and they squeak out a win.

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

I’m not much of a fan of Detroit’s moves or offensive talent. Without Calvin, they have a lot of role players left. I’ll predict a W and hopefully it’s not a long year for Lions fans.

Week 3 Oakland Raiders at home

After playing the Raiders four weeks before in preseason, the Titans will think they have them figured out. That won’t be the case and the Raiders will go on to have a very nice season.

Week 4 at Houston Texans

JJ Watt against a rookie right tackle. The nicest guy, but when I envision him thinking upon this game, I imagine a sinister evil laugh and saying something like “again? third year in a row!” This will bring their record to 2-2. Hopefully the Titans don’t put a rookie tackle against him in 2017.

Week 5 at Miami Dolphins

Dick Lebeau will scheme and win some games. Ryan Tannehill will seem “ripe” to fall victim to his schemes.

Week 6 Cleveland Browns at home

I am not a fan of Cleveland’s moves as of yet. I think they just had too many holes to fill and not enough free agents or draft picks to get it done. They should be more hopeful for 2017. First easy Titans win in a few years.

Week 7 Indianapolis Colts at home

Luck is not a bad quarterback at all. He is special. His detractors can enjoy the downtime, but he can certainly throw the rock. I will pencil this in as a split so give this one to the Colts.

Week 8 Jacksonville Jaguars at home

The Jags have had a terrific offseason. They should be the kings of the division this year and remain on top until division rivals get better cornerbacks. 4-4 record at this point.

Week 9 at San Diego Chargers

The age of Rivers and Gates, the lack of faith in Whisenhunt…something will fall the Titans way and they’ll win this one.

Week 10 Green Bay Packers at home

Few teams have a solid secondary this late in the season. Defensive backs get hurt and backups are exposed. I don’t imagine the Titans will have enough to slow down Aaron Rodgers.

Week 11 at Indianapolis Colts

The second of the split, so give this one to the Titans.

Week 12 at Chicago Bears

Thankfully being second worst provides a nice schedule. They focus too much on throwing to Alshon, that won’t beat a Lebeau D.

Week 14 Denver Broncos at home

IF IF IF They are a top defense, the Titans could surprise here in some sort of field goal contest. Not a fan of Mark Sanchez and he’s going to play at some point. Probably a loss to the champs, but neither Sanchez nor a rookie QB against a Lebeau D is a good prospect so, I’m going to give them a surprise W here. 8-5 at this point.

Week 15 at Kansas City Chiefs

The Titans got lucky in week one of 2014. The Chiefs play sound defense and a slow “eat up the clock” offense. Both are exactly what the Titans don’t do well against.

Week 16 at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jags will be sitting pretty with the playoffs on the horizon. They’ll put the Titans away early and have people predicting wild playoff success after.

Week 17 Houston Texans at home

Injuries to the Titans line have always built up at this point; the last few years, their line has been quite poor in week 17. Again, JJ Watt will “have a field day” against them.

8-8 would be a terrific improvement. It’s not so unexpected when you take in that they aren’t playing a difficult schedule. In 2017 their schedule will be a bit more difficult and they could be 8-8 again. It will take some time to make the playoffs, but 2016 should show marked improvement.
