The Tennessee Titans are about to welcome back Ken Whisenhunt on Saturday, when the Titans face the San Diego Chargers.

Fans are about to feel those short hairs on the back of their neck and maybe their skin crawl. They will be complimentary and that’s always a rough time for fans.

The worst coach in franchise history should be heckled. The guy that helped to create the worst team in the NFL should be ridiculed. The guy that stunted the development of young players should be….you get the point.

There’s this frustration, this feeling of angst or anguish when fans think of how many times they watch a futile attempt to win a game while the team was led by Whisenhunt.

The organization and most of the players will not feel that way. Whisenhunt tried his best. He was their leader that tried to make the players perform their best. Players generally respect anyone that tries to make them better. Owners and team presidents and such feel similarly.

During today’s pressers, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said that he’s looking forward to seeing him and how they’ve been keeping in touch. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said how he has only good thoughts.

The venom the fans have won’t be matched.

It’s also usually a time that fans get “thrown” by the kindness and realize their own errors. Sometime on Sunday, following the Saturday game, watch the reactions on twitter and facebook. It’ll change.

Fans make mistakes too. They don’t go home and live these perfect lives. They’ve made mistakes. They’ve had great ideas, with the best of intentions, only to watch them fail. It happens to all of us at some point.

Sometime this weekend, it will change.

Whisenhunt will go from the hated to “eh that was then, this is now” and fans will move on.

Whisenhunt needs to behave and not have his players do anything “dirty” or under-handed that could add fuel to the fire. That’s about the only way this feeling of angst will continue next week.
