Titans letting go of special teams coach Lowry

The SportsXchange

The Tennessee Titans are parting ways with special teams coach Alan Lowry, the Tennessean reported Friday.

Lowry is known for designing the "Music City Miracle" play that lifted the Titans during the playoffs in January 2000 and to their only Super Bowl appearance.

Coach Mike Munchak reportedly told Lowry that his contract will not be renewed.

Lowry completed his 17th season with the franchise, going back to when the Titans were the Houston Oilers. He has been their special teams coach for the last 14 years.

Also known as the "Home Run Throwback" play, the Titans' Lorenzo Neal took a Buffalo Bills kickoff late in the fourth quarter of their wild-card game and handed off to tight end Frank Wycheck, who threw a lateral across the field to Kevin Dyson. The Titans were lifted to the win when Dyson ran down the sideline for a 75-yard touchdown.

Lowry is the fourth Titans assistant coach to lose his job since the season ended, in which the Titans went 6-10.
