The Titans have fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer and will promote quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains to that position, the team announced Monday.
Palmer joined the Titans after Mike Munchak became the team's head coach in 2011. He has served as an offensive coordinator and as a quarterbacks coach for several NFL teams and was the Browns' head coach from 1999-2000.
"As an offense I didn’t feel like we were progressing the way that I had hoped," Munchak said in a statement. "I believe we needed a change in direction and I hope to see that progress in our remaining games."
Under two different starting quarterbacks, the Titans' offense has been up and down this season, posting 35 points or more in three games but 20 points or fewer in seven.
Loggains, in his fifth year with the Titans and third as the team's QB coach, will take over Palmer's duties.
"Dowell has worked here for a number of years under some very successful coordinators and he is ready for this challenge,” Munchak said of Loggains.
