Titans Colts snap count thoughts

Here are some Titans Colts snap count thoughts.

The first thing that jumps out is running back DeMarco Murray playing 70 of 73 offensive snaps. That is alarmingly high. Derrick Henry was the Heisman trophy winner in college. Antonio Andrews was last year’s starting running back. Murray needs a break. It’s a long season and Murray needs to be able to endure. Those two are more than capable of giving Murray some rest.

Followup- How much will Murray play Thursday now? After a few days rest?

Kendall Wright played more than half the snaps and only had two receptions for twelve yards. Andre Johnson played 25 snaps and had zero receptions.

What did coach Mike Mularkey say about receivers needing to be consistent this spring? What were his reasons for disapproval of Justin Hunter and Doral Green-Beckham?

The Titans General Manager Jon Robinson traded down from the first pick in the draft to stockpile several picks. He “wheeled and dealed” often and the Titans wound up with three second-round draft picks. That was a big infusion of talent and rather exciting.

The second rounders did not perform well. Austin Johnson was inactive. Derrick Henry played six snaps. He ran for three yards and dropped a pass. Kevin Dodd played 15 snaps and did nothing statistically-no tackles, sacks, or interceptions.

Nose tackle Al Woods returned to man the middle of the defense. He played 25 snaps and Frank Gore ran for more yards up the middle than at any other spot along the defensive front. This has been a trend all season. When he was injured, the Titans stopped the run very well up the middle.

There’s grumpiness from Titans fans. I am no different here. The game stung. Revisiting the game was not helpful to alleviate that sting. The Jags are thankfully coming up after a short week. It’s time to be more positive and grab another W.
