Tijuana completes thrilling comeback to qualify for Mexican finals

The Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles have advanced to the final of the Mexican league, completing a spirited comeback at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana to reverse a 2-0 deficit from the first leg against Leon.

Needing at least two goals, the Xolos notched a thrilling 3-0 win, which put them into the final in just their sixth year of existence, and second year in the Mexican top flight.

Fidel Martinez scored the opener just before the half, and Duvier Riascos added a second in the 68th minute to even the aggregate score at two. In the 90th minute, Richard Ruiz completed the scoring for the home side, sending the Estadio Caliente into raptures.

U.S. international left back Edgar Castillo went the full match for Xolos, picking up a yellow card in the process. Fellow American Joe Corona also started, and lasted 61 minutes before being substituted. A third American, Greg Garza, was not in the 18 but did score against Monterrey in the quarterfinals.

Tijuana now advances to the two-leg final, where it will take on Toluca. The first leg will be Thursday in Tijuana, with the second leg on Sunday in Toluca.

Toluca will be going for its 11th league championship, which would equal Guadalajara's mark for the most titles in Liga MX history.
