Television coverage of the Barclays PGA Tournament, which will be played from Thursday, August 23, 2012 to Sunday, August 26, 2012, has the potential to earn millions of dollars for the networks. Both stations carrying the PGA event, GOLF and CBS hope to profit from the highlight: Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. This pair is poised to set the bar for players high at the Barclays and to set the ratings high for television. Just because they are matched up against one another, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will draw viewers and increase the amount of money that the networks collect.

At the Barclays, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have become the centerpiece. They are both big names in the PGA. Together, however, the could do more than even Tiger Woods can do alone after his scandal. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy may have set the stage for a long-awaited rivalry in the PGA.

A Rory McIlroy v. Tiger Woods Rivalry?

The PGA has desperately been looking for a rivalry since the days of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. The elements of one have appeared in a previous contest, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, where both Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods finished the first two rounds tied. The potential for a close contest is in the air, but it is still speculation as to whether it will solidify. For the television networks, though, speculation is all they need to make millions on commercials and sponsors.

Tiger Woods' and Rory McIlroy's Combined Draw

Viewers will also be tuning in to watch Tiger Woods possibly return to the win column in a major tournament. This anticipation has drawn many eyes and will become a factor in the ratings of the tournament for both GOLF and CBS. Even in a loss at Pebble Beach, Tiger Woods helped CBS win in the ratings. With Rory McIlroy's, Tiger Woods will make the television execs very happy on Thursday, August 23, 2012 and Friday, August 24, 2012.

Television coverage for the The Barklays at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, NY is being provided by GOLF and CBS. GOLF covers all four days of the tournament; CBS is airing the last two days. This tournament extends from Thursday, August 23, 2012 to Sunday, August 26, 2012.
