The Super Bowl is over and sports fans now have a major gap to fill. That is why the PGA Tour has some perfect timing for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The event begins on February 9 and features the first 2012 appearance of Tiger Woods in the United States. Woods and Phil Mickelson are definitely the headliners in the strongest PGA field so far this year. Here is a look at the field that golf fans can enjoy at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Woods is going to be the guy that draws the majority of attention. This is his second tournament of 2012 and his first on his home soil. Wood has been a lot better lately. He started playing better golf toward the end of 2011 and finished third at a European Tour event in January. Can he finally win a meaningful event? That might be difficult given the field but all eyes will be on the 14 time major winner. Woods won this event in 2000 but hasn't played here in a long time. 2000 just happens to be the best year of his career. He would love to duplicate that effort starting with a win here.
Woods is joined by another heavyweight in Phil Mickelson. Not long ago these two had the best rivalry in golf. Mickelson has been active the past few weeks but he hasn't really been that strong. He is a three time winner here and seems due for an impressive performance. It would be great for golf if both of these guys got into contention early in the tournament. Can you imagine the drama if they are in the same group in the final round? That would be sure to draw solid ratings.
Aside from the big two there will be plenty of other names at Pebble Beach. Two time winner Dustin Johnson is the highest ranked golfer in the field. Reigning champion D.A. Points is also in the mix. Former major winners at the event include Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Mike Weir, Davis Love III, and Jim Furyk. Some of the big current names like Hunter Mahan and Brandt Snedeker are also competing. This is the best field the PGA has had so far in 2012 and there is no question that Tiger is a big reason for that. This should be an exciting event for all sports fans that are looking for some excitement in the wake of the football season ending.
