The WWE Championship has not been this relevant in a very long time. The feud between C.M. Punk and John Cena, as well as the looming feud that is to be with The Rock down the road, has a huge buzz surrounding the title. There was a time when that was the norm for the WWE Championship, but those days are over. No longer can the strap carry all the weight. Now, you have to have an intriguing feud and a solid champion to get that buzz. The WWE has that in spades with C.M. Punk's title reign and John Cena as the challenger. As a huge WWE fan, I have never been a big John Cena guy. This latest feud between the two, however, has changed that for me. Color me a John Cena fan as well.
After John Cena and C.M. Punk wrestled to a controversial draw at Night of Champions 2012, Cena ended up having to have elbow surgery. It appears that the surgery will keep him out of action for at least three weeks and perhaps as many as six weeks. That has many people worried that Cena and Punk will lose momentum on the feud they had going. Here are three reasons why it may actually help:
John Cena had several issues health wise that can heal this way
Cena, like all professional wrestlers, had a number of nagging injuries including his ankle, elbow and foot that were bothering him for some time. This time off will allow him to heal and gear up for the huge PPV season that looms ahead. It won't be long before WrestleMania season is upon us and Punk might just be his target. Either way, Cena can get healthy.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder...especially in wrestling
If you go onto a video site and punch in "wrestler returns" or some similar search term, you will get back literally hundreds of choices. Why? Because everybody loves it when a wrestler comes back after being gone for a bit. This is especially true for a polarizing guy like Cena. He will have an explosion when he shows up once again on WWE television and his popularity will start up all over again. In the mean time, Punk can grow his heel character to epic heights.
C.M. Punk will be able to trash him for weeks
The WWE has tried every single thing that they can think of to turn Punk completely heel and they simply can't do it. Punk has his fans and always will. Still, they can allow him to really trash Cena while he is gone. That will boost his heel level with the Cena fanatics if nothing else, and they are quite vocal. As this feud slow boils towards his return, the anticipation will be worth it in the end.
