Three Reasons I Am Ready for the NBA to Return to Seattle: Fan Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

Plans for a new basketball arena are moving forward, and Seattle appears to be one step closer to getting their basketball team back. I don't necessarily want to steal a club from another city, so I'm not sure how this is going to work since the Association does not necessarily have plans to expand. However, the arena is a positive step and as a fan I am ready to have the Seattle SuperSonics back in the state of Washington. Here are three reasons why the fan base is ready for some hoop again.

Hard to watch the Thunder

It is tough to watch the Thunder and know that they were once in Seattle. It is tough to watch a fan base get to enjoy a successful team so early in their history. Oklahoma City has not had to go through the long-term growing pains of a new franchise. In a couple of short years, they vaulted to the top of the NBA. That should be Seattle's team, which is why fans are excited about a new arena and the possibility of getting the Sonics back.

Los Angeles has too much drama

I am a Seattle native that lives in the Los Angeles area, which means that I get a steady diet of Lakers and Clippers news all throughout the year. The Laker coverage can rival a soap opera, and while I enjoy watching the Lob City Clippers and players like Blake Griffin, it would be good to have my own team again. Whenever people ask me which team I root for, I say the Sonics. When they point out the obvious fact that the Sonics no longer exist in the current NBA, I say, "Don't worry…they will be back soon."

The NBA owes Seattle

Fans outside of Seattle keep telling the folks in the Emerald City to get over it. How do you get over the league and commissioner standing idly by while an owner lies to your city and then steals your team? The NBA owes the city of Seattle, and if this arena deal gets done I expect David Stern to figure out a way to put the Sonics back where they belong. It may take a little time, but I am looking forward to seeing a basketball team back in the Pacific Northwest.
