Three Questions for the Los Angeles Galaxy-Vancouver Whitecaps Game: A Fan’s Preview

Yahoo Contributor Network

The Los Angeles Galaxy will face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 23 at the Home Depot Center. The Galaxy have won two games in a row and the Whitecaps have a five-game unbeaten streak. Here are my three big questions for the match.

Will Robbie Keane Play?

Robbie Keane has finished his international stint for the Republic of Ireland. The striker is available for Saturday's game against the Whitecaps. However, the Galaxy have had success without Keane. Bruce Arena has dabbled with new lineups and formations. With two consecutive wins under our belt, something has obviously been clicking. Keane hasn't scored for the Galaxy since March 31. In addition, he failed to find the back of the net in Euro 2012. After a rigorous schedule, Keane is likely fatigued. In addition, he's not in the best form. Then again, he is probably eager to end his scoring drought for the Galaxy. I'm sure he'll get into the game at some point. Despite all the travel, Keane says he would "be happy to play 90 minutes."

Will Donovan and Magee continue to score?

Together, Landon Donovan and Mike Magee made three goals in the 3-2 victory against Real Salt Lake. Donovan's first goal was unassisted. However, Donovan provided the through ball that led to Mike Magee's equalizer. Then, Magee returned the favor with a perfect pass that enabled our captain to score the game winner. Before these two goals, Donovan hadn't scored since April 28th for the Galaxy. This was Magee's second goal and first assist in the regular season.

Can the Galaxy break through the Whitecaps' defense?

The Whitecaps have one of the least porous defenses in the MLS. They have only conceded 16 goals in 15 games. Furthermore, they have seven clean sheets. Part of the Whitecaps' defensive success can be attributed to goalkeeper Joe Cannon who has made 47 saves. The veteran keeper has 1.11 goals against average per game and his save percentage is 72. Vancouver's defense will be tough to penetrate but I think our offense is clicking more so it shouldn't be a problem.

Who will win? My money is on the Galaxy.
