On Saturday, July 21, 2012, the Walmart Bass Fishing League (BFL) is expected to hold a bass fishing tournament at the Three Forks Harbor located in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Here are a few more details:
Muskogee Fishing Tournament Basics
The Walmart BFL event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Three Forks Marina located on Three Forks Road. The bass fishing tournament is open to recreational anglers. Anglers that are interesting in fishing in the tournament must pre-register, remit a fee, attend a meeting and possess a valid, Oklahoma fishing license.
Pre-registration may be completed on Friday, July 20, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Three Forks Marina. Registration fees are payable upon sign-up. Boaters may expect to pay $200 and co-anglers should plan on paying $100. The obligatory anglers' meeting is slated to occur at the marina that same evening. The meeting is expected to start at 7:30 p.m.
A two day, resident, Oklahoma fishing license typically costs $15. A non-resident, six day, Oklahoma fishing license generally costs $35. Both may be purchased online or through designated licensing agents.
About the Venue
The Three Forks Marina is located on the Arkansas River at mile marker 393.6. It is located in the same area where the Arkansas River connects to the Grand River and the Verdigris River. The marina offers visiting anglers access to boat slip rentals, boat ramps, boat fuel and pump out services. A marina store, courtesy car service and boat repairs are also available onsite. For those anglers that are interested, nautical charts for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River System are available through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Tulsa District's website.
Anglers that prefer to prop their fishing pole up on dry land for the night will find a handful of lodging establishments located in Muskogee. Among them are an America's Best Value Inn, a Holiday Inn Express, a Days Inn, an Econo Lodge and a Comfort Inn. Visitors may also want to consider grabbing a bite to eat at Miss Addie's located on West Broadway. The restaurant serves a palate pleasing shrimp provencal for around $20.
Arkansas River Fishing Forecast
Visiting anglers should note that as of Sunday, July 1, 2012, the Arkansas River's surface water temperatures around Muskogee were reputedly in the 80s (Fahrenheit). The water level was around 18.39 feet and the bass are in a post-spawn mode. During the fishing tournament, anglers may want to consider targeting the deeper sections of the river as well as the weed beds. Jigs, deep diving crank baits and topwater lures may prove to be productive.
