Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles will finally have the answers to some draft questions on Thursday, April 26. That is the night that the first round will unfold. Assuming that the Eagles stand pat at number 15, the most likely scenario sees the team selecting a defensive lineman. The Eagles need a guy that can help solidify the pass rush while also being able to stop the run. Fortunately, there are a number of good players available that should be able to help Philadelphia. Here is a look at some potential defensive linemen that should be there for the Eagles at number 15.
Drafting Coples would be a big sign that the team has serious concerns over Brandon Graham. The 2010 first round pick has barely made it onto the field and his future is up in the air. Coples would give the Eagles a defensive end that can immediately help. He knows how to get to the quarterback and he fits the system run by Jim Washburn. If I had to put money on it, this is the guy that the Eagles would choose in the first round.
Upshaw can play both defensive end and linebacker. While that makes him ideal for a 3-4 scheme, the Eagles might decide that his flexibility is appealing enough take him. DeMeco Ryans solves the linebacker need in the middle and Upshaw could help on the outside. He can also give the team a lot of depth behind Trent Cole. He has a championship pedigree and comes from a historically good defense. There is a lot of appeal with this player and I would love to see him in midnight green.
The best defensive tackle on the board is Fletcher Cox and he figures to go in the top 10 of the draft. That means that the Eagles might have a good shot at landing Poe. The biggest concern is that he is pretty raw. Poe didn't have glorious numbers at Memphis and the Eagles might want to shy away from another experiment in the first round. However, he does have a lot of upside and can immediately contribute depth to the middle of the defensive line.
