Long before Harambe dominated the hot Internet discourse there was another adorable animal that stole the hearts of the online-going public. His name was Pizza Rat, and his intentions were just. All he wanted to do was eat a slice of some tasty New York pizza.

Observe:

Pizza Rat’s 15 minutes of fame may have come and gone, but now there’s a chance to make sure his memory lives on forever. The Staten Island Yankees are changing their team name next season, and “Pizza Rats” is one of the five finalists for the honor.

“Pizza Rats” is not the only unusual name in the bunch. We’re partial to “Bridge Trolls.” While not as iconic as Pizza Rat, the “Bridge Trolls” would make for an intimidating foe. Plus, we would love to see the “Bridge Trolls” logo. The “Rock Pigeons” isn’t bad either. It’s a good nickname for the area, and it’s also wacky enough for the minors. Pigeons aren’t all that intimidating.

If there’s a sleeper in the bunch, it has to be the “Heroes,” right? That’s the one serious option, and you know people will get out and vote for anything that honors the troops. It certainly seems like this is the one name that could beat out “Pizza Rats.”

Then again, never underestimate the power of the Internet. If Harambe can become a meme and a cat playing a keyboard can get its own commercial, then the “Pizza Rats” can be a real-life Major League Baseball team. What a time to be alive!
