LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that starting quarterback Baker Mayfield's right knee has no structural damage after the freshman was hurt during the No. 20 Red Raiders' win at Kansas.

The walk-on's injury doesn't ''appear to be a season-ending type,'' Kingsbury said. ''Timetable-wise, I'm not sure yet but that was good news.''

Kingsbury said he's not sure whether Mayfield will start or even play against Iowa State this week.

Mayfield went down with seconds left in the third quarter, tackled while he was in the pocket attempting a pass. He hobbled very slowly off the field with someone helping him under each arm. A short time later, he left the field on crutches.

Mayfield, ranked No. 18 in the nation in passing, threw for 368 yards and a touchdown and ran 19 yards for another score before being replaced by backup Davis Webb.

For the season he's 132 for 201 for 1,488 yards and eight touchdowns. He's thrown five interceptions, including one in the first quarter that led to a Jayhawks' field goal.

Kingsbury said Monday's practice, while a lighter workout than other game-week workouts, will give him more information about Mayfield.

''Got to get him over here, see how he's moving around, see how he's feeling and then take it from there,'' he said.

Co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie said he's talked to Mayfield since the game.

''His spirits are pretty good, really,'' he said.

Texas Tech is 5-0 for the first time since 2008 when the Red Raiders achieved their highest ranking ever, climbing to No. 2 after beating No. 1 Texas in Lubbock.

Mayfield's injury could accelerate the timeframe for Michael Brewer, the presumptive starter heading into fall workouts, to get more playing time alongside Webb, Kingsbury said. Brewer has been out of the rotation after reinjuring his lower back in August.

''If Baker can't go then obviously (Brewer would) get more reps than he's been getting and just see how those other two guys are doing this week in practice,'' he said.

Webb is 37 for 70 for 550 yards and four interceptions. Brewer played the last few minutes at Kansas but attempted no passes.

Mayfield's favorite receiver, tight end Jace Amaro, says he has confidence in whoever Kingsbury goes with at quarterback.

''It's not such a big adjustment because it's the same scheme,'' said Amaro, who has 38 catches for 463 yards. ''It's not missing a beat. We run the same plays. We do the same exact thing whether Baker is in there, Davis is in there, or Michael.''
