Texas State defeats Texas-Tyler 86-66

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) -- Matt Staff had 28 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night and Texas State defeated Texas-Tyler 86-66.

Staff made 10 of 14 shots in 27 minutes of play as the Bobcats (2-0) dominated the Division III Patriots. Joel Wright scored 19 points for Texas State and Reid Koenen had 13 points and eight rebounds. Texas State won its opener against Fordham.

Jordan Cannon led Texas-Tyler with 13 points and four assists. Travis Dykman scored 12 points for the Patriots, who stayed in it until early in the second half. Texas State led 40-30 at halftime.
