Texas Rangers' World Series History

Yahoo Contributor Network

The 2012 season was not as nice to the Texas Rangers as the previous two seasons. All the Rangers had to do was win one out of the last three games of the season in Oakland. That, however, never happened. Oakland was hot; Texas was flat. One win would have hoisted the Rangers to their third straight American League West title and a better shot at making a solid run to appear in the World Series for the third year in a row.

The Rangers' "epic meltdown" didn't end in Oakland.

Even though they blew a late-season 13-game lead, they were given one last shot at playoff hopes. The first ever wild-card playoff game saw the Rangers host the Baltimore Orioles. This win-or-go-home game proved that Baltimore would move on and Texas would go home.

The Rangers had experienced huge success the previous two seasons; 2010 and 2011 were American League Champion seasons for the Rangers.

Here are the breakdown of memories:

World Series: The Rangers' first ever World Series appearance occurred in 2010. They would ultimately end their amazing run losing in five games to the San Francisco Giants. Two great memories came from that season even though they lost the World Series. First, they actually got to the World Series. That was a huge accomplishment within itself. Since the Washington Senators moved to Texas and changed their name to Rangers, there hadn't been too much success for the Rangers. Second, they beat the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series to get to the World Series. If you ask the hardcore Rangers fans, that series victory was satisfaction enough.

The 2011 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals was a bit different. It was exciting to see the Rangers make back-to-back World Series, but winning was on the mind of all Rangers fans. Needless to say, disappointment struck twice during Game 6. In two different innings the Rangers were one strike away from their first ever World Series victory. Yes, I still tear up thinking about it.

Division Titles: In their 40-year existence, the Rangers have won the American League West six times -- 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011.

Playoff Appearances: The Rangers have made the postseason six times -- 1996, 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2012.

Home Field: Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Built in 1994 and has been home field for all the Rangers' postseason successes.
