Texas quarterback David Ash will be back in the starting lineup when the Longhorns open Big 12 play against Kansas State on Saturday night. Texas announced Friday that Ash, who missed the loss to Mississippi last week because of a concussion, has been cleared to play. Ash has participated in two of the team's three full workouts this week, so the announcement did not come as a surprise. Texas coach Mack Brown is feeling the heat with the Longhorns owning a 1-2 record following two straight losses. Ash was injured in the fourth quarter of Texas' loss to BYU two weeks ago. He has completed 62.9 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and two interceptions this season. Case McCoy, who started against Mississippi in Ash's absence, becomes the backup again. It's still unclear whether Texas' leading receiver, Mike Davis, will be available. He injured his ankle in the second quarter against Ole Miss. He has four of the team's seven receiving touchdowns this year.
