Texas QB Ash out for Mississippi game

Texas starting quarterback David Ash has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Mississippi because of head and shoulder injuries, the Longhorn Network reported Friday.

Ash left last week's game against BYU with a head injury. It's unclear whether Ash will miss games beyond this week's game.

In two games this season, Ashe has rushed for 125 yards and has completed 62.9 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Case McCoy will be the Longhorns starting quarterback in Ash's absence.

Texas is coming off a 40-21 loss to BYU that led to the firing of defensive coordinator Manny Diaz on Sunday
