Offensive lineman Patrick Hudson has committed to Texas.

Hudson is the fourth player who originally signed with Baylor to switch to the Longhorns. He joins Devin and Donovan Duvernay and offensive lineman J.P. Urquidez. Like Hudson, Donovan Duvernay and Urquidez were released from their National Letters of Intent by Baylor because of the school’s decision to fire coach Art Briles.

Devin Duvernay was eligible to sign with another school after a clerical error meant his NLI with Baylor wasn’t binding.

Per Orangebloods.com, Hudson’s paperwork was faxed into the Texas football offices on Wednesday morning. He’s a four-star recruit and the No. 3 guard in the country according to Rivals.

The commitments are a huge coup for Texas coach Charlie Strong in his bid to re-establish the Longhorns as a contender in the Big 12. Three of the four ex-Baylor players are four-star recruits and give the Longhorns a 28-person 2016 class.

The addition of Hudson and the others also means Texas has the No. 7 class of 2016 signees, according to Rivals. The top-10 class is the best-ranked class in the Big 12 and the best class Strong has signed in his three recruiting cycles as Texas head coach. The 2014 class was ranked No. 20 by Rivals and the 2015 class was No. 12 in the country.

And while the influx of good recruits is a boost for Texas, it can also be seen as added pressure for Texas to improve significantly in Strong’s third season. He has a record of 11-14 at Texas and a conference record of 9-9. Another sub-.500 season would intensify the thoughts of Houston coach Tom Herman – or, sigh, even Nick Saban again – in the minds of Texas fans and boosters.

While Texas has vaulted up the recruiting rankings, Baylor has fallen accordingly. Baylor’s class is ranked No. 37 in the country and has just 17 signees. That number, however, includes defensive back Parrish Cobb, another Baylor player who received his release from the school.

Five players got their releases from Baylor. Running back Kam Martin said he was heading to Auburn.

The Bears also lost the verbal commitment of 2017 quarterback Kellen Mond. The QB said earlier this week he was heading to Texas A&M.
