The Mavericks (1-1) shot 50 percent from the field, finishing 31 of 62 and having five players in double figures, including four starters. Jamel Outler and Lonnie McClanahan each had 14 points while Vincent Dallard contributed 12.
Texas-Arlington ran out to an early 10-point lead in the first seven minutes and led 41-34 at the break, holding the Bulldogs to 31 percent shooting in the first half.
Samford (1-1) cut the deficit to three early in the second half, but the Mavericks pushed their lead back to 11 on a dunk by Edwards. They led by as much as 16 in the second half.
Raijon Kelly led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Tyler Hood and Connor Miller each had 12.
