Texans got good mileage out of backup inside 'backers

The Texans have few glaring needs heading into the draft and free agency following the best season in franchise history. If Mario Williams escapes via free agency, finding another outside linebacker who can rush the passer — defensive coordinator Wade Phillips can never have too many, after all — will be a priority. Bolstering the interior of the offensive line is another area the team could address, as Mike Brisiel is a free agent and Wade Smith will be 31 in April and is not coming off his finest season. Still, the position that Texans fans would most like to see their team address is wide receiver, where production was hard to come by without Andre Johnson last season. Fortunately, receiver is viewed as one of the deeper positions in this April's draft crop. That means GM Rick Smith, who much prefers to stand pat or trade down, is very unlikely to pull a Falcons-type blockbuster, instead allowing a talented receiver to fall to him.
