Texans got good mileage out of backup inside 'backers

A few days after losing swing OT Rashad Butler to a season-ending torn triceps, the Texans announced the signing of OT Ryan Harris, who had been cut by the Broncos on Friday.

Harris, 27, spent two stints with the Broncos sandwiched around a preseason stint with the Eagles last summer. He had back surgery in September 2011 but is well versed in the zone-blocking system used by Houston.

The Texans placed OG Shelley SMith on waivers to free up the roster spot for Harris, who is expected to fill the swing tackle role that Butler was slated for before getting hurt.
