Texans' Foster out until training camp

Running back Arian Foster's calf injury will keep him out of the Houston Texans' organized team activities and minicamp, coach Gary Kubiak announced Wednesday.

Foster suffered a strained right calf on the first play in team drills during Tuesday's voluntary practice.

"He'll stay on crutches a couple of days, rehab, and we'll have him back for camp," Kubiak said. "He's going to be fine."

The Texans want to proceed with caution to allow Foster time to recover before training camp starts in July. He rushed for 1,424 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

Picking up the bulk of the carries in OTAs and minicamp will be running back Ben Tate.

"We've got two weeks left of the offseason, so (we're) obviously not going to do anything to take a risk," Kubiak said in comments posted on team's website. "We've got two months almost before we get ready to go. Might have ruined Arian's summer -- he's gonna have to be here a lot -- but that's OK. He's gonna be OK."
