Texans backup QB battle still on-going

The battle to see who backs up Matt Schaub continues in Houston, as Coach Gary Kubiak says the battle between T.J. Yates and Case Keenum will continue into this week's final preseason game.

“What I’ll do is I’ll start Case this week,” Kubiak said. “They’ll both play a half of football going into this one. Obviously they’re going to be playing with a bunch of young players, but I think it’s been extremely close. It would be hard to make a decision today. But if I would have to make one, I’d make one. I think this game is still important.”

The Texans website reports that Yates, last year's No.2, is slightly ahead in the race, but that Keenum still has a chance to overtake him. At either rate, it looks like the Texans will be one of the team that keeps three quarterbacks on its 53-man roster.

“Only thing that could’ve been different is we finish that drive last night and we’re still out there trying to figure out who’s going to win that football game,” Kubiak said. “They’ve both been very good and in command of what we’re doing and their growth in our offense. Like I said, I probably feel as good as I’ve felt after my starter probably in a long, long time. Like I said, it’s a nice problem to have. We’ll see where we end up here in a week."
