Tennessee Titans Release Pannel Egboh and Troy Kropog: Local Fan’s Take

The Tennessee Titans have released offensive lineman Troy Kropog and defensive end Pannel Egboh. These moves were made on September 11, 2012. In order to reach the 53-man roster limit, the Titans had to make two roster moves. Kenny Britt returns from his one-game suspension. On September 10, the Titans signed offensive guard Deuce Lutui to a one-year contract.

Troy Kropog: Resume

At age 26, Troy Kropog has been an off-and-on participant on the Titans' practice squad. The Titans drafted him in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. From 2009 through 2010, Kropog appeared in six games. He spent all of 2011 on the practice squad.

Troy Kropog: Shock Factor

This isn't a surprising release. The Titans still have four reserve offensive linemen with Kevin Matthews, Mike Otto, Byron Stingily and Lutui. By signing Lutui, the Titans added a more-experienced offensive guard behind Leroy Harris. Had Otto not suffered his finger injury, Kropog may have never made the 53-man roster.

Pannel Egboh: Resume

The San Francisco 49ers signed Pannel Egboh as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Egboh has spent time on the practice squads of the Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles and Titans. He spent the entire 2011 season on the practice squad. At age 26, he has yet to record a NFL statistic.

Pannel Egboh: Shock Factor

This one is pretty surprising. I would've never thought that Egboh would get released before Quinn Johnson or even Zac Diles. As of mid-August, Egboh was reportedly stealing first-team reps from Derrick Morgan. At 6-foot-6 and 287 pounds, Egboh also gave Tennessee a large body at defensive end.

The Titans still have a rotation of defensive ends that include Kamerion Wimbley, Morgan, Keyunta Dawson and Solomon Scott. They still could have used that extra depth behind the oft-injured Morgan. Don't forget that Leger Douzable was placed on injured reserve a couple weeks ago.

It's worth noting that the Titans had reportedly worked out defensive linemen Jarius Wynn and Tim Richardson on September 3. During this date, the Titans also worked out Lutui.

The Titans are preparing for a Week 2 meeting with the San Diego Chargers on September 16. The Chargers are coming off a short week. Can the Titans take advantage and end their eight-game losing streak against this team?
