Tennessee Titans Consider Kyle Boller, Mike Sims-Walker and Jerheme Urban: Local Fan’s Take

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly worked out three players as training camp begins on July 28, 2012. Those players include quarterback Kyle Boller and wide receivers Mike Sims-Walker and Jerheme Urban.

Mike Sims-Walker

Titans enthusiasts may know Sims-Walker as he spent the past three-plus seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 27-year-old wide receiver had a brief stint with the St. Louis Rams in 2011. Sims-Walker was placed on injured reserve (IR) in November after he underwent knee surgery.

The four-year veteran enjoyed his most-productive campaigns in 2009 and 2010. In 29 games, Sims-Walker had 106 receptions for 1,431 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Although he only had 12 receptions in an injury-plagued 2011 season, he did have a game against the New York Giants where he had six receptions for 92 yards.

Jerheme Urban

Since 2004, Urban has played with the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. He's only had 22 receptions since 2009. The 31-year-old's best season occurred when he had 34 receptions for 448 receiving yards and four touchdowns by the Kurt Warner-led Cardinals team in 2008. He only had four receptions with the Chiefs in 2011.

Kyle Boller

Boller was the most-surprising pick to work out. Since 2003, the 31-year-old has previously played for the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders and Rams. In seven games with the Raiders from 2010 through 2011, Boller completed 17-of-32 passes (53.1 percent) with four interceptions and no touchdowns. His career touchdown-to-interception ratio is 48-to-54.

Any Chance Of Making The Team?

The Titans already have Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker as their top-two quarterbacks. The only two reasons that I can see for working out Boller is if Coach Munchak is that unsatisfied with Rusty Smith. That's possible. The other reason would be if there's an undisclosed quarterback injury.

The Titans will almost certainly start their season without Kenny Britt. They also haven't finalized a contract with 2012 first-round pick Kendall Wright. They could use some wide-receiver depth in training camp. Although unlikely, I could see Sims-Walker making the team if injuries piled up at wide receiver and he had an impressive training camp. Don't forget that he has familiarity with the AFC South.
