COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Missed free throws and missed boxouts cost Loyola of Chicago a road win Tuesday night in the Eblen Center. The Ramblers made just 14-of-23 at the foul line and were dominated 39-25 in rebounding, making the difference in a 74-69 non-conference loss to Tennessee Tech. Both teams now are 1-1. Loyola failed to take advantage of a great start to the second half. It broke away from a 32-32 tie by sinking five straight 3-pointers in a 4-minute, 34-second span, establishing a 51-39 lead on guard Milton Doyle's 3. But the Golden Eagles gradually reeled Loyola in, regaining the lead on two free throws by guard Ty Allen with 8:34 left. From there, the lead was never more than a possession either way until forward Dennis Ogbe converted a 3-point play with 1:14 remaining for a 73-69 lead. The Ramblers failed to score on their last two possessions and guard Jordan Johnson added a foul shot with 22 seconds left for Tennessee Tech. Ogbe led a very balanced attack for the Golden Eagles with 13 points and nine rebounds. Forward Ladon Carter added 12 points, while Allen netted 11 and guard Jeremiah Samarrippas contributed 10 points. Doyle sank 4-of-7 3-pointers and tallied a game-high 23 points for Loyola, while forward Christian Thomas hit for 18 and guard Jeff White scored 12. But an 18-6 discrepancy in second chance points ultimately proved to be the Ramblers' undoing. Loyola travels to Tulane Saturday at 2 p.m., while Tennessee Tech plays Texas-Pan American Friday at 5 p.m. in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Islanders Tournament.
