Teixeira aggravates wrist, heads back to N.Y

The SportsXchange

New York first baseman Mark Teixeira already has missed 53 game this season because of a wrist ailment and that number will increase come Sunday.

Teixeira left in the fourth inning of the Yankees 6-2 loss against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday after aggravating the wrist.

NJ.com said the Yankees diagnosed the problem as an "aggravated right wrist" and said Teixeira will fly back to New York to be examined by team doctor Chris Ahmad on Sunday

Teixeira returned to action on May 31 after resting his wrist and letting the tendon sheath heal after injuring it in March while training for the World Baseball Classic.

Since his return, Teixeira has struggled and is hitting just .151 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 63 at-bats.

When Ahmad initially examined Teixeira in March, he did bring up the possibility that surgery would be needed.
