TCU to renovate basketball arena
TCU plans to upgrade its basketball facility with a $45 million renovation project recently approved by the school's board of trustees.
The 53-year-old Daniel-Meyer Coliseum will be modernized with wider concourses, more bathrooms, improved concession areas, enhanced seating, a courtside club for season ticket-holders and a facade similar to nearby Amon G. Carter Stadium, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Construction is expected to begin after the 2013-14 season or when the fundraising is completed. The project already has a $10 million commitment from donors Ed and Rae Schollmaier.
Athletic director Chris Del Conte hopes to have at least $45 million raised by November.
New locker rooms, an athletics hall of fame and new coaches offices for various sports also are part of the arena plan.
"Having the opportunity to renovate Daniel-Meyer Coliseum helps TCU achieve its ongoing goal of optimizing its physical campus," TCU chancellor Victor Boschini said in a release. "We are very grateful to Ed and Rae Schollmaier for their continued support of TCU."
Construction would force the Horned Frogs to play in another arena during the 2014-15 season.
"This project will result in a new, unique basketball environment that all those associated with TCU will be proud to call home for years to come," TCU coach Trent Johnson said.
TCU's football stadium underwent a $164 million renovation project that was completed before the 2012 season.
