Tarrant leads Tulane over Bethune-Cookman 65-55

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Ricky Tarrant made 11 of 14 free-throw attempts en route to a game-high 21 points as Tulane downed Bethune-Cookman 65-55 Tuesday night in a nonconference affair.

The Green Wave (1-1) fell into a 22-13 hole early in the first half, but took the lead with a 17-4 run, including a pair of free throws by Ben Cherry to put Tulane up 27-26 with 5:59 left in the half. The Green Wave never surrendered that lead.

The Wildcats clawed back to make it 37-35 early in the second half, but after both teams went scoreless for nearly 2 minutes, Trevante Drye tossed in a dunk and Jordan Callahan drained a 3-pointer for Tulane to re-expand the lead for good.

Tulane connected on 28 of 35 free throws as Bethune-Cookman committed 29 personal fouls, with 11 different players earning violations - 10 with two or more.
