North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams left the hospital Thursday, one day after having a tumor removed from his right kidney, the school announced.
Williams may need to undergo a second procedure next month, this time on his left kidney, depending on whether the removed tumor was malignant. It could take up to a week to get the results.
Williams, 62, should return to the court when UNC begins basketball practice next month, and the doctor who performed the surgery issued a statement that said he expects Williams "to coach this season and for years to come."
If needed, a second surgery would force Williams to miss practices, but not games. The tumors were discovered during a physical earlier this month.
