With the NFL season a little over two months away from opening most of the team’s fans are already entering hype mode. For teams like the Buffalo Bills, this time of year gives much of the fanbase hope and joy thanks to the fact that their team has it’s best shot at winning it all. No team is better than the other and all records are exactly the same putting each team on par with each other.

However, come September that feeling of hope and joy will almost certainly change. While the top tier teams of the NFL will undoubtedly be competing for playoff spots and division titles, teams like the Buffalo Bills could find themselves somewhere between a rock and a hard place.

Entering the second year of the Rex Ryan-era in Buffalo, the Bills have some pretty high expectations this season. Having not been to the playoffs since 1999 many in the Bills front office and fanbase believe that this is the year that all changes. For some such as Rex Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley, failure to reach these goals could cost them their job.

With many teams throughout the AFC — and the NFL as a whole — likely in a position where they can compete for a playoff spot this season, these goals will be extremely tough to accomplish. With almost no room for error this season let’s take a look at the three most important games for the Buffalo Bills this season.

3. November 7th at Seattle

In their only Monday Night Football appearance this season the Buffalo Bills will have an extremely tough contest on their hands. Playing in front of one of the loudest stadiums in all of professional sports the Bills will be looking to generate momentum heading into the latter half of the campaign.

With the Bills entering their bye week following the game at Seattle, the result will likely determine their momentum over the rest of the season. A big win and the Bills may be on their way to the playoffs. A heartbreaking defeat and Buffalo’s playoff drought could continue for at least one more season.

2. December 11th vs Pittsburgh

Starting a three-game homestand that will see the team play their final three home games before a week 17 trip to the Jets, the Bills will have a lot of pressure on them when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. A win here should give the Bills momentum over their next three games, something the team will need to get them to the playoffs.

However, while a win will definitely propel the Buffalo Bills forward, a loss could be deadly to their playoff chances. With their next three games being against the Browns, Dolphins, and Jets, the Bills will need all of the momentum they can get in order to solidify themselves into the playoffs.

1. October 2nd at New England

If Rex Ryan was Batman, the New England Patriots would be his Joker. Always getting his teams up to the task of taking on the AFC East kings, Rex Ryan has never been able to get his team over the hump that is the Patriots.

With the playoffs the team’s main goal this season, all roads out of the AFC East will lead through New England. If the Bills can finally deliver against the Patriots in their trip to Foxborough this season then their path to the playoffs becomes a lot easier. If they fail to get the W, their week eight rematch at Ralph Wilson Stadium will take over the top spot on this list.
