With Brown's 2012 football schedule featuring two nationally televised games by the NBC Sports network, with Harvard and Princeton, the Brown Bears are looking at an exciting season.
Brown Stadium will feature a new video scoreboard installation that will be ready to go for opening night, Sept. 22, against Harvard. The Bears fans' stadium experience is about to be enhanced! Why not celebrate with a little pre-game tailgate?
Here is a Brown Bears fan's tailgating guide to help plan for a successful tailgating party:
Parking: Brown Stadium parking Lot A is located at 400 Elmgrove Ave on the East Side of Providence, R.I. Although there is on-street parking as permitted on streets surrounding Brown Stadium, Brown Stadium's parking Lot A opens two hours prior to game time and is the main lot to tailgate in. Lot A is $20 and first-come, first-serve. There is also satellite parking with free shuttles and tailgating is allowed in all Brown athletic lots.
Brown tailgating rules and regulations: Tailgating is allowed 2-3 hours before game time, during halftime, and for one hour after the game. Setting up tables, tents or coolers in adjacent parking spots is not allowed, and Brown Stadium requests that you set your tailgate up behind your vehicle. Generators are not allowed and Brown does not provide electricity to tailgaters. Although alcohol is allowed, kegs of beer are not allowed, and patrons carrying excessive amounts of alcohol will not be allowed into lots. All lots are walked by Brown Police & Security and Brown Athletic Event Staff to ensure tailgating wraps up one hour after the game.
Tailgating tips:
Plan tailgating food and drinks ahead of time: If you are planning to party with a group, divvy up food and drink responsibilities so that one person is not overwhelmed with the preparation or costs of all food and drinks for your tailgating party. Plan cooler space and ice needs the night before to save time on gameday.
Designate a driver: If your party will be consuming alcoholic beverages, be responsible and delegate a designated driver.
Show your team spirit: Show your team spirit with a "Let's go Bears T-shirt," or your favorite Brown university attire.
Check the weather forecast: You wouldn't want a little rain to ruin all the fun. Check the weather forecast the day before; if it looks like rain, pack large umbrellas, tarps, or a pop-up tent.
Useful numbers to carry while tailgating: If you need assistance, it may be helpful to have these numbers on hand:
- Brown Campus Police 401-863-4111
- Brown Campus Police (Non-emergency) 401-863-3322.
Happy tailgating, friends! Go Brown Bears!
