Taggart takes South Florida coaching job

South Florida hired Willie Taggart as its new football coach, ESPN reported Friday.

Taggart left Western Kentucky to accept the job. He replaces Skip Holtz, who was recently fired after coaching the Bulls the past three seasons.

Taggart, 36, coached Western Kentucky for three years. The Hilltoppers went 7-5 this year and are headed to the Little Caesars Bowl. It is their first bowl appearance since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2008.

South Florida finished 3-9 this year under Holtz.
