Oscar Tabarez concedes Spain is "unquestionably" a better team than Uruguay, but has nonetheless instructed his players to attack the reigning world champion in the Confederations Cup on Sunday.

The Copa America holder opens its campaign in the Festival of Champions against La Roja, and the 66-year-old hopes his players do not hide in the face of the party atmosphere, despite acknowledging their inferiority to the Euro 2012 winner.

"Spain are a team that are great in ball possession and impose [this] on their opponents. Unquestionably they are a superior team to us," he told reporters. "But we have the recent friendly against them on our side [Spain won 3-1]. There was a moment when we were on a par with them.

"We are arriving for a party and we will try to make ourselves noticed, so we will not sit back. We have a little hope and we will push forward with respect and belief. It is exhilarating to start against the world and European champions. Our aspiration is to reach the next round, but we must work hard and well."

Elsewhere, Uruguay captain Diego Lugano was not afraid to brand Spain as the favorite ahead of the clash but explained that his country's defensive steel could counter the passing philosophy of Vicente del Bosque's men.

"It is logical to say that [they are the best]. Spain are favorites, they are the best team in the world, they are the champions and Uruguay are less so in their prime," he added. "They are a team that if you allow them to have the ball, you won't see it anymore. Spain are superior to Brazil in their treatment of the ball. Then it is Brazil and then Argentina.

"It is not the case with Uruguay, who from the start teach their children to defend."
