Washington Redskins Cut-Down Analysis | ESPN Redskins Blog
Most significant move: Keeping only one running back among the four in contention for what appeared to be two spots in the last round of cuts, Silas Redd, and four overall. The Washington Redskins wanted to add speed and a dynamic runner this offseason, so they drafted Lache Seastrunk in the sixth round and also had Chris Thompson on the roster (they would have tried to sign Darren Sproles had he become free). But the Redskins cut both Thompson and Seastrunk and opted for the undrafted rookie Redd, who earned the spot with a strong summer. Roy Helu will serve as the third-down back with Redd adding insurance. Redd is not as fast as Seastrunk or Thompson, but showed he was worth keeping.
Random Thoughts on Redskins Roster | ESPN Redskins Blog
They valued special teams, which is why both players, especially Davis, made the roster. He plays with the speed and energy you want on special teams. Focus on him during a return and you will understand what I mean. The kid plays hungry; so does Robinson. The more guys you have like that, the better. If they can play, that is.

Thoughts on Redskins initial 53 Man Roster | Washington Post Redskins Insider
It became clear rather early in camp that Redskins coaches signed Colt McCoy because they like him as a player, and not just so he could serve as a camp arm. So this wasn't a surprise at all. However, you can make the argument that because of the risk of a young potential difference-making back like Lache Seastrunk or Chris Thompson not making it through waivers, perhaps Washington should have gone two QBs, four RBs and a fullback. But, because of Griffin's injury history and the hits we saw him take in the preseason, it's probably smart to keep McCoy in case Cousins winds up having to start with Griffin hurt, which would prompt the need for a backup with knowledge of the system.

The Redskins are in a bit of a bind at the position now. Coach Jay Gruden indicated last week that Bacarri Rambo would take Meriweather's spot. Rambo is in his second season and he started the first two games of last year but he was benched due to poor performances. The 2013 sixth-round pick has improved since then but it remains to be seen how effective he can be in a regular season game.
