New York Giants’ fans have seen what it takes to win NFL Rookie of the Year. Remember when Odell Beckham Jr. won the 2014 ROY award. It looked a little something like this if you need a refresher.

Is rookie Sterling Shepard destined for the same accolades? Could he be named this season’s ROY?

Giants rookie receiver Sterling Shepard, this year’s second-round draft pick, has a great shot at the ROY award this season. The overall health status of Victor Cruz is very much unknown as he still recovery from his torn calf muscle. Shepard will be given a great opportunity to compliment Beckham as the number-two wide receiver. The double-teams that Odell Beckham deals with will provide great one-on-one opportunities for the new rookie receiver. During OTAs, Giants quarterbacks were really impressed with the new-comer. Some reports are claiming Shepard caught every ball thrown his way, so that’s definitely a good first impression to me.

In this Ben McAdoo west coast offense, the number-two receiver will roughly get between 75 to 90 targets this upcoming season, which gives Sterling a lot of chances to explode. Last season, former Giants wide receiver Rueben Randle converted 90 targets into 57 catches for 797 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Sterling Shepard should be able to top those numbers because I believe he is more talented than the now Philadelphia receiver.

Giants fans should expect great things from Sterling Shepard this season. Hopefully, it’s capped with an Offensive Rookie Of The Year Award — and a Super Bowl while we’re at it.
