Stephen F. Austin 79, Towson 69

A hot shooting night couldn't overcome carelessness with the basketball for Towson on Friday night as the Tigers fell to host Stephen F. Austin 79-69 in the Lumberjack E-Tech Classic in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Towson (6-3) led 59-51 on a free throw by guard Four McGlynn with 8:56 to play but turned the ball over on five of its next eight possessions. It didn't score again from the floor for five minutes as the Lumberjacks (7-2) went on a 14-1 run to take the lead.

A layup by Towson forward Rafael Guthrie cut the Stephen F. Austin margin to 65-62, but three consecutive Lumberjacks baskets combined with back-to-back Tigers turnovers put the game out of reach.

Guthrie and forward Jerrelle Benimon each scored 16 points to lead the Tigers, which saw their three-game winning streak end. Towson shot 55 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line but turned the ball over 20 times.

Stephen F. Austin guard Thomas Walkup led all scorers with 20 points. Forward Nikola Gajic and guard Desmond Haymon each added 18.

Towson trailed 40-38 at the half despite going 13 of 18 from the floor and 4 of 5 from three-point range. But the Tigers turned the ball over eight times, forced just two turnovers and surrendered seven offensive rebounds to the Lumberjacks.
