Steelers suspend RB Mendenhall one game

Running back Rashard Mendenhall was suspended one game by the Pittsburgh Steelers for conduct detrimental to the team.

While the team didn't announce the reason for the suspension, Mendenhall failed to show up to Sunday's home game against the San Diego Chargers after he was informed he would be inactive, according to multiple media reports.

Mendenhall has played in just four games this season after returning from January knee surgery, while also missing four games with an Achilles injury this season. He has rushed for 113 yards on 34 carries and has fallen behind Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman on the depth chart.

Mendenhall was inactive for the Steelers' past two games.

"Rashard will get an opportunity to redeem himself, I'm sure, at some point along this journey," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said last week. "That's the nature of this thing. There's ebb and flow and opportunities are presented. Obviously, he's not being given one right now."

Baron Batch was promoted from the practice squad to fill Mendenhall's roster spot. He was on the active roster for the first 10 games this season before being released and joining the practice squad for the past three weeks.
