Steelers near deal with RB Bradshaw
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw and the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a match if the injury-prone 27-year-old can pass medical inspection.
Bradshaw visited with the Steelers on Thursday and the team gave him a physical. According to multiple reports, a deal could come together quickly if the Steelers don't see red flags with his health. That's a concern, perhaps, considering Bradshaw's history of foot and lower-leg injuries.
He had three surgeries on his right foot since entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2007.
"Pound for pound, Bradshaw is one of the toughest football players that I've been around," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said in February. "Ahmad played football like Giants football should be played."
The Steelers used a medley of running backs last season, but none of a trio of Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman rushed for 625 yards or averaged more than 4.0 yards per carry.
Bradshaw was released by the New York Giants, who saved $3.75 million in cap space, after six seasons and two Super Bowl victories.
Bradshaw's departure cleared the way for the Giants to start David Wilson, the Giants' 2012 first-round draft pick.
"I saw it coming because of the money," Bradshaw said in February. "Everything is about money, I guess, so yes I was expecting it. I'm not discouraged at all. I'm just looking towards getting healthy and working with somebody else. That is all I can do. The Giants fans will always be remembered and always be loved."
In Bradshaw's six seasons with the Giants, Bradshaw rushed for 4,232 yards (No. 6 in franchise history) and 32 touchdowns on 921 carries and averaged 4.6 yards. He ran for 1,015 yards on 205 carries in 2012.
Bradshaw caught 132 passes for 1,087 yards and three touchdowns during his career. He is one of six players in Giants history with 3,000 rushing yards and 100 receptions, and 3,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.
