Steelers GM Kevin Colbert talked to reporters Thursday about the ongoing contract situation with WR Mike Wallace.

Wallace, who has not signed his restricted free-agent tender, did not report to camp, and negotiations apparently will not progress until he signs the tender.

“I think it is what it is right now with him not being here. Really, we’ve got to focus on what we can control, and we can’t control that because, again, every negotiation’s unique,” Colbert said, according to PFW Steelers correspondent Jim Wexell of Scout.com. “You put your best foot forward. If it’s not suitable for both parties then you have to adjust. We’re really in a just-move-forward mode right now.”

Colbert addressed the team’s decision to not reduce the value of Wallace’s tender when it had an opportunity to do so in July. “We never really wanted to do that because Mike’s a good player who’s worthy of the tender we put on him a long time ago,” he said.

Wallace had 72 catches for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns last season. The first-round tender is worth $2.7 million for 2012.
