The Dallas Stars on Tuesday traded winger Michael Ryder to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for winger Erik Cole and a third-round draft pick.

Ryder, 32, rejoins Montreal after spending his first four years in the NHL with the Canadiens from 2003-04 through 2007-08. With the Stars this season, Ryder has 14 points in 19 games, including nine in a six-game stretch this month. He scored 35 goals for the Stars last season.

Cole joined the Canadiens last year and scored 35 goals with 26 assists. He's started off slow in 2012-13, tallying just six points in 19 games.

Ryder is making $3.5 million this year and is slated for unrestricted free agency in the offseason. Cole is earning $4.5 million this season and has two more years on his contract.
