Today is National Draft Day:

Stars' Peverley collapses; game postponed

The SportsXchange

Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench Monday during the first period of the team's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

He was hospitalized in stable condition, the Stars announced.

The game was postponed after a lengthy delay.

The Stars issued a statement that read, "He was tended to by medical personnel immediately and was conscious upon being transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation."

Later, the Stars posted on their Twitter feed: "Rich Peverley remains conscious and continues to be treated. We'll make updates available on his condition as they become available."

Peverley, 31, has a history of irregular heartbeats, missing several games this season due to the problem. He underwent a medical procedure in September intended to correct the issue.

With the game in action, players and personnel on the Dallas bench reacted frantically to Peverley's collapse, and play eventually was halted. Peverley was taken down the tunnel toward the locker room.

The Blue Jackets held a 1-0 lead with 13:37 left in the opening period when the game was stopped.
