Stars 3, Ducks 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Alex Chiasson scored his first NHL goal and Lane MacDermid scored his second in as many games as the Dallas Stars earned a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks before an announced crowd of 16,884 Friday night at Honda Center.

The win allowed Dallas to snap a three-game losing streak to the Ducks. The Stars hadn't defeated Anaheim since a series-opening decision Feb. 8 at Dallas. It also was only the fifth setback at home for the Ducks in 19 games, but those losses have come in their last six outings at Honda Center.

The two teams were meeting for the third time in five days. Predictably, things got heated throughout the contest, with Ducks' rookie Emerson Etem getting the best of Dallas' Antoine Roussel in clash late in the first period. The two clubs combined for 10 penalties in the first two periods.

The Stars came out firing in the opening period. MacDermid, obtained by Dallas in the trade of Jaromir Jagr earlier this week, scored his second goal in as many games, taking a pass from Ryan Garbutt near the blue line, bolting down the middle of the ice and slapping a backhand past Anaheim goaltender Viktor Fasth at 9:03 for a 1-0 lead.

It took the Ducks only 18 seconds to answer. After David Steckel grabbed a loose puck near the back of the Stars' net, he connected on a pass to Andrew Cogliano, who scored for a 1-1 tie at 9:21.

The Stars regained the lead with a shorthanded goal at 13:54, when left wing Eric Nystrom outraced three Ducks for the puck, then scored when he caught Fasth out of position well outside the crease for a 2-1 advantage.

Chiasson, who made his NHL debut Wednesday against the Ducks, scored his first goal with 48 seconds left in the period to make for a 3-1 Stars' lead.

Dallas outshot Anaheim 16-9 in the first period.

The Ducks played without captain and leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf, who sat out with a lower-body injury suffered in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Stars.
