COMMENTARY | The St. Louis Blues have already given the fans numerous show-stopping and jaw-dropping moments during this 2013-2014 season. The season is still young and there will be many more moments that wow the fans and will live in their memories for years to come. The top 5 moments that come to mind from this season come from Jaroslav Halak, Alexander Steen, Ryan Reaves and Roman Polak.
Halak's Toe Save
The Blues played the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 2, 2013. Blues' goalie Jaroslav Halak was scrambling to keep the puck out of the net during the second period. He made an amazing toe save on the Lightning's Brett Connolly. Halak can make any save look effortless and while some will argue that this was just lady luck on his side, it is still spectacular to watch time and again.
Steen's Overtime Win
Alexander Steen gave St. Louis fans a show on home ice during the October 9, 2013 game against their division rival, the Chicago Blackhawks. With only 21.1 seconds left in the game, Steen pushes forward and lights the lamp for the game winner. Steen has been on fire this season and has had some amazing goals. This goal in particular was jaw-dropping not just because of the seconds ticking away, but because of the pizzazz and determination that he used in making it happen.
Reaves Hand-Breaking Fight
Ryan Reaves and Colorado Avalanche forward Cody McLeod fought it out in a hard-hitting brawl on November 14, 2013. The result of this fight was a broken right hand for Reaves. This hand injury required surgery and he is out of the line-up for about 8 weeks. The sheer determination and guts that Reaves shows in this fight should land it on the top fights of the 2013-2014 season.
Steen's Behind the Net Goal
With the Blues on the road against the Nashville Predators on October 26, 2013, Alexander Steen scores from behind the Predators' net. He banks the shot off the Predators' goalie Carter Hutton. During this play Steen shows great composure and skill. He was able to shoot the puck from behind the net, deflect it off of Hutton and get the goal.
Polak the Goal Scorer
Defenseman Roman Polak is not known for generating offense. However, in the November 12, 2013 game against the Phoenix Coyotes, Polak came in behind the play and was able to beat Coyotes' goalie Mike Smith for his 2nd goal of the season. Polak is not an offense generator and therefore sometimes is forgotten in situations such as this. He came into the play and slipped the puck past Smith. Even though the Blues fell to the Coyotes in overtime, this is still a memorable moment.
