Spurs assistant Brown interested in Celtics

The SportsXchange

San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown wants to coach the Boston Celtics, according to the Boston Globe.

Brown is from Portland, Maine, and played basketball at Boston University. He also grew up a Celtics fan.

League sources told the Globe that Brown is "extremely" interested in taking the Celtics vacant head coaching job.

The Celtics reportedly have not contacted Brown. The job opened after Boston traded Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers early this week.

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly interested in Brown. There were even reports Thursday that they hired Brown, but the team denied those reports while speaking to reporters after the draft.

Brown has worked as a Spurs assistant under Gregg Popovich for seven years. He had been the Spurs player development coach prior to that.

Before joining the Spurs, Brown was a head coach for nine years in the Australasia National Basketball League. He was the head coach of the Australian national team and led the Aussies to a seventh-place finish in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
